Here's how to make an ironing board cover with a free ironing board cover pattern.  This is an easy sewing project that'll make you actually happy to iron.

Ironing board cover supplies you'll need: – 2 yards cotton quilting fabric – 1 package heat resistant batting  – 4 1/2 yards twill tape – 2 packages of bias tape  – 4 1/2 yards cotton twill tape – 1 cord lock

Ironing board cover supplies you'll need: – Elastic threader – Fabric marker – Quilt ruler – Fabric pins – Free ironing board cover pattern (click on the link below for the pattern)

Print out the pattern and tape it together.   Add 2" around the edge of the pattern for the outside fabric.  Cut 1 on the fold. Then cut 1 on the fold from the batting Cut 2 pieces 4.5"x71" for the bottom pieces from your fabric.

Place the batting shiny side down on the back side of the fabric.  Stitch the batting to the fabric close to the edge of the batting.

Sew the bottom pieces together along the short sides with a 1/2" seam allowance.  Press open the seams.

Sew the bottom pieces to the outer edge of the cover with a 1/4" seam allowance.  Press the seam towards the bottom.

Sew bias tape to the raw edge of the bottom piece all the way around.  Press the tape completely to the inside (right on the edge).

Flip the bias tape to the inside and stitch close to the inside edge of the tape.  Leave about 4 1" gaps as you stitch around.

Thread twill tape through the bias tape at the gaps until you've gone all the way around the inside of the casing with the tape.

Stitch the gaps closed, except where the ends come out. Then fit your cover on your ironing board.  Pull on the tape until everything is snug.  Tie a knot and pass the ends through a cord lock.
