Sew Saturday Snippets #9
Cocktail dress inspiration
Doctor T of Doctor T Designs made this gorgeous red dress (Burdastyle 11-2015-113) a short while back, but I think it’s a beautiful example of what a cocktail look could be for The Day and Night Dress Challenge. Definitely this elegant dress is going out for a really nice dinner!
Samantha of Sew by the Seaside shares this fantastic leopard print cocktail dress for her #smyly entry. Her story of losing her Mom early is very touching, and it’s wonderful that sewing has become an outlet for her and a way to remember her mom’s lessons. The whole look is just quintessential cocktail dress! Check out my perfect cocktail dress formula:
Coffee Dress Inspirations
Laura of Petite Passions made this very cozy Seamwork Mesa dress. The texture of this knit is so interesting! This is definitely the kind of wear it anywhere any day kind of dress, and that I think should be the essence of your coffee looks! Allow me to share my coffee dress formula:

Allison of The Tall Mama made this beautiful Megan Nielsen Matilda Dress. I love how the black buttons echo the print! Shirt dresses are such a smart choice for a coffee look. Allison is in Australia, but those of us in the Northern Hemisphere could easily add a cardigan, tights, and scarf for an easy day look in this type of dress.

My Cocktails Dress inspiration
I made up this DG Patterns Victoria dress in an array of stretch velvets. If you’ve seen any of my work, you know that I never pass up a colorblocking opportunity, plus the velvet makes pushes into fancy land. I even got to wear this to New Year’s Eve at my German friend’s house where everyone ate raclette and she made Glühwein.
Contests/Sewing Community Challenges and News
The first month of SewMyStyle2018 has flown by and many many Friday Pattern Company Sunny dresses have been popping up on Instagram. It’s been cool to see how some people have made this style their own by changing sleeves, skirt flare etc.
This week on SewTube
Okay, a couple people said they were interested in joining me so figured I’d come up with a simple social media flyer. THE RULES ARE SIMPLE: 1. No pattern buying of any kind starting Jan 1st until June 30th 😄 2. Repost this post and use the hashtag #naturaldanenopatterns so I know you are joining me…I know I’m not alone🤗 3. July 1st – July 31st you can buy whatever pattern you want and then August 1st back to no buy until Black Friday. 4. All participants will be put into a random drawing for FABRIC 🎉🎉🎉…I will draw the name or names the 1st week of July! The purpose is to sew up our stash and to venture into frankenpattern and pattern hacking. What a great way to broaden our skills. The Stitch Sisters have produced a great series of videos on different fabric types for Minerva Crafts.
