It’s time for Sew Saturday Snippets #8! This series is all about highlighting cool makes, sewing community challenges, contests, and sewing videos. Check out all the previous Snippets in the navigation bar above or here! If you’re interested in being featured on an upcoming edition of Sew Saturday Snippets, please email me at email@example.com. I took a break last week from Snippets to recover from some epic posting about The Day and Night Dress Challenge 2018.
Sew Saturday Snippets #8
The first Day and Night Dress Challenge participants!
We have 2 people this week who get the early bird prize. Both of these lovely women have already made their dresses for The Day and Night Dress Challenge! I’m so impressed at their drive to get through things this far ahead of schedule! Brava ladies!
The first of these women who are on top of their Day and Night Dress Challenge game is Silver. She’s made 3 versions of Cashmerette’s Rivermont Dress in conjunction with my challenge and also #smyly. I love how much joy she gets out of sewing! It is indeed a wonderful thing to see flat fabric transform into something that fits your body!
My new casual dress for me only. . I was encouraged by #dayandnightdresschallenge, #cashmerettechallenge and #smyly2018. . It’s #RivermontDress (No. 3) from @cashmerette. I added a neckline band. . Sewing is pure joy. I love sewing and I love to wear everything that I make. It helps me to be in the moment, to be positive and to love myself. It is very important to find an excellent pattern because otherwise sewing can be a big frustration. @elizabethmadethis #cashmerettepatterns #cashmerettechallenge #makersgonnamake #sewistofinstsgram #sewinglove #sewinglife#memade #handmadewardrobe #handmade #pdfpatterns #ilovesewing #sew #sewsewsew #sewcialist #cashmerette #curvysewing #cashmerettemakes #curvysewingcollective #smyly2018 #sewingmakesyouloveyourself #smyly #bodypositivity #mentalhealth #sewingismytherapy #curvygirlsew #cscmakes #curvysew @smyly2018 @hattie_van_der_krohn @athinakakou @lisakisch
Arianwen made two versions of the Sunny Dress from Friday Pattern Company for her Day and Night Dress Challenge looks. The red is so pretty, and I love how relaxed yet polished this pattern looks as a tunic in the wool jersey Arianwen chose.

My Coffee Dress inspiration
I made up a casual shirtdress. It’s made from men’s shirts with a little extra polka dot linen as contrast. I may have gotten a little meta with the blockprinting I added of dresses. This would be a great ultra casual coffee dress.
Day and Night Dress Challenge: The planning edition
I wanted to share some people’s plans for the challenge as well. It’s good to see people’s thought processes sometimes to help give you ideas and maybe kickstart your own plans!
Fany has got great plans for her coffee look from this gorgeous purple Liberty print her husband gifted her with. What excellent taste he has!
#cc_Julia cami dress coming along nicely 🌸 Hands down, the fabric has proven to be a challenge as it’s very loosely woven and frays like no other I’ve dealt with before 🙌 Of course used #frenchseams and also fused the bindings for better stability (and easier handling!) 🌸 Just the straps and the hem left to finish now 👏
Also, Anastasia, the lovely face behind Clean Cut Patterns and one of our sponsors for the challenge is making up her Julia dress in this beautiful white and navy houndstooth. If you don’t know know about Anastasia by now, definitely go check out her stuff. She’s very new to the sewing world, but her design process is equal parts fascinating and beautiful. I’m really excited to see where she goes next!
Contests/Sewing Community Challenges and News
Patternreview is running the Match Your Shoes contest. The idea is that you make up a garment to match a favorite pair of shoes. I can’t wait to see what people come up with. Some of you guys are incredible shoe aficionados!
The BurdaChallenge2018 is also up and running. You make a garment a month from the current Burdastyle magazine. Burdastyle kindly made a nice free planner for this challenge to help you outline the course of your projects. Hila of Saturday Night Stitch is the one who got the ball rolling with this.
Just in case you missed it in this last week, I’ve announced The Day and Night Dress Challenge. Check out the awesome prizes up for grabs, and my incredible team of bloggers and vloggers I’ve assembled for the challenge.
This week on SewTube
Mel of Handmade by Ditsy Tulip does a really touching #smyly video. How wonderful that sewing has been part of a journey towards health!
Hey, I hit 1000 subscribers! Yay, and happy dance! Stylish Fabric is being awesome in sponsoring a giveaway for my first big YouTube milestone, so go check that out! You have until February 1st to leave a comment telling me the one thing you really want to know about sewing to enter.
I also share my January plans. There’s just one more thing to finish out of this batch, but then my serger decided to misbehave with the ITY!
What are you sewing this fine Saturday?
