Must-see Makes

SarahGuthrie1963 made this lovely yellow green version of the Pauline Alice Aldaia Dress.  I love how at home this pretty print looks in Sarah’s garden!

Erika of Paisley and Gold Sewing made this gorgeous dopp bag for her shop in this cool mail themed print.  I’ve been seeing lots of these kinds of bags, and I think this is such a pretty example of a great style.  This fabric is FUN, and it’d be such a great travel bag!

Throwback to Christmas Eve in my #littlereddress … even though it’s my second dress I’ve made so far, it’s the first one I actually love. Pairing the dress with my wedding dress earrings and my gran’s bangle made it that more special ❤️. . It snowed in the evening and my family ended up having an impromptu snowball fight… it was the perfect packing snow too ❄️☃️ Love when genuinely sweet moments like that happen. Since I’m not home too often, I hold those little sparkles of time close 💫. . Of course I had to take a few photos after as evidence 😂 Snowball, tree and a funny pose 😆 . Excited to have finished it in time for #thelittlereddressproject hosted by @runningnstyle and @rosabella.angelica too! . @namedclothing hit it out of the park with this one. I have never bought a wrap dress because they never fit me properly, so it was fun to tailor it to my body and give me enough coverage. I’m now a new fan of the tulip skirt! It took some adjustments and JUST enough thread and fabric, but I couldn’t be happier! Worth the effort. I felt so vavavoom 💃🤩 . Pattern: @namedclothing #oliviawrapdress Fabric: red knit from my stash, @fabriclandcanada . #imadethis #makersgonnamake #craftallthethings #creativelifehappylife #creativelife #loveyourself #peoplescreative #inspiremyself #handmadewithheart #slowfashion #ecofashion #makersmovement #fakeittillyoumakeit #sewmuchcrafting #sewersgonnasew #sewersofinstagram #sewcialists #fashionrevolutionday #whomademyclothes #imademyclothes #memade #memadeeveryday #calledtobecreative #slowliving #indiesewing #saricaalice #throwbackthursdays

Saricaalice made this Named Clothing Olivia Wrap dress for her littlereddress entry.  Can you believe that this is her second dress ever?  I know for sure that my 2nd dress was not this cute!  I get excited when I see people like Sarica who, after having made a commitment to dive into the nitty gritty of learning this great craft that we share just explode in their skills!

Mina McGrady is one of the many amazing women in the Facebook group Sew Much Talent that I’m lucky enough to be an admin in.  It seems like she is always coming up with a new fantastic pattern hack, and this cold shoulder sweatshirt is no exception.  This is so crazy stylish!  Can’t you just see it with a pair of heels and skinny jeans or leather pants?

Sew Saturday Snippets #5

I shared my reversible quilted coat, which has been a great last project of 2017 (or is it?!).

The remarkably talented Eli of Cat in a Wardrobe made this stunning coat from Simplicity 8469 in a wool blend tweed.  The surprise in this coat is the sleeve lining that Eli cut from a silk scarf.  That little pop of pattern is such a fresh touch, and using old scarves is a really affordable way to add silk to a garment!

Contests/Sewing Community Challenges and News

Lucky Lucille is hosting 2018MakeNine.  Decide on 9 sewing projects you want to work on throughout the year, then share them to Instagram with the hashtag: #2018makenine.  Rochelle has some great advice on this post on picking your projects.  I’ve already seen people’s grids popping up this week, and it’s fun to see people’s progress on their plans throughout the year.  I made 7 out of my 9 for 2017.

Top 5
of 2017! (1)

Gillian of Crafting A Rainbow is hosting her Top 5 of 2017.  Reflect on your top 5 hits, misses, highlights, reflections, and goals of the year, and you can link them up and see everyone else’s on this post.

Sew Mama Sew fills us in on some of the year end fabric store sales.  I know Sew Much Talent’s January challenge revolves around sewing from our stashes, so stock up now!

This week on SewTube

Sara Lawson of Sew Sweetness shares a full video tutorial for her Baker Street bag.  She always makes the prettiest bags, and this one looks like a good excuse to try out some cork fabric.

I announced the winners of my Christmas Sewing Giveaway.  It was a fun way to finish off the year, and I’m happy to say that all the prizes are on their way to their new homes.

Lisa Comfort of Sew Over It   gives us a little sneak peek of their new shop.  It looks like the kind of place you’d want to be all day.  Oh, to be in the UK.

    • Thanks Faye! I’m going to have to add your little tip about de-threading your chair casters! Would you believe I found a tie that I use to wrap around my fabric tubes around one of the casters?

  1. WOW! Some really cool “Snippets” Elizabeth! I really love that colorful bag too it would make for a great cosmetic travel bag! Also, Mina’s version of that sweatshirt is “KILLER”! She definitely knocked that out of the preverbal ball park for sure!

  2. Thank you for starting your “Saturday Snippets” posts Elizabeth – I really enjoy reading them and discovering new people and sites to add to my online sewing community.
