The fabulous Faye of Faye’s Sewing Adventure finished off her yearly winter coat in this great faux shearling using Kwik Sew 4197.  She even braved hand stitching down the exposed seam allowances for an extra clean look.  I just love the design lines on this one!

Elizabeth of Pins and Pinot made this lush velvet Closet Case Files Nettie bodysuit.  The navy is so beautiful!  I can see this becoming that kind of wardrobe staple that goes with everything and instantly elevates any outfit.

The lovely Brittany J Jones made a fun Butterick 6244 waterfall cardigan in a great wine colored wool blend knit.  I adore textured knits, and this knit really makes these waterfall edges sing!

I tackled my fear of wearing red in my vintage Vogue 2787 for #thelittlereddressproject.

Mel of Handmade by Ditsy Tulip made such a fun party dress in this Vogue 1102.  I can think of little more befitting a happy birthday dress like this one than a nice bow back!  Also, isn’t her sewing space the kind of place you just want to hang out and have a cup of tea while you stitch in?

Cosplayer and historical seamstress extraordinaire Elise of Elise’s Closet made this incredible emerald Regency area costume.  The amount of detailing and work in this ensemble is impressive as is the 11.25 yards of fabric it took to put together!

And here is the full outfit, front and back! 😀

Finally, Jess of Coral Bunny and Lo made this sweet polka dotted sweater knit poncho from McCalls 6658.  It looks so cozy and like just what I want to be wearing with my next green tea latte!

Contests/Sewing Community Challenges and News

Jessica Lorraine is hosting the Sew My Style 2018 challenge.  12 different indie patterns will be sewn up throughout the year.  You can sign up here and see the list of patterns/sewing schedule here.  If you’d rather just check in on other people’s progress on this challenge, check out the hastag #sewmystyle on Instagram.

Athina Kakou just released the Ultimate Sewing Planner 2018.  It’s a PDF printable you can put together to help tackle all of your sewing projects, challenges, and general sewing room organization for the year.

My hats off to the people entering the octagon for Patternreview’s Fabric Stash Contest.  It’s always interesting to see just how many yards of fabric will get sewn up by the winner!  It runs until December 31st.  You can sew up 100 yards in a week, right?

Dude, I won the finals of That Sewing Blab’s So You Think You Can Sew competition!  Back in January when I had the goal of actually outright winning a sewing competition, I wasn’t sure that was a reasonable goal.  I’m really excited that I was able to achieve that finally!  More to come on this coat.

The #littlereddressproject reveal runs until tomorrow, Dec 24th.  Post your pictures of your red dresses to Instagram, and make sure to use the hashtag #thelittlereddressproject.  I guess there’s been some confusion, but only entries with that hashtag will be entered into the prize drawings.

This week on SewTube

Viv of Stitches and Seams has a great discussion about Big 4 patterns vs. Indie patterns and the advantages/disadvantages to both. What team do you play for?

You have until tomorrow, Christmas Eve at 9 am to enter my Sewing Christmas Giveaway.  I’m picking 4 random winners!  Good luck!

You can see all of the muslin changes to my little red dress plus learn just how comically long it’s been since I wore a red dress.

Sarah of Like Sew Amazing shares a version of By Hand London’s Anna dress with some beautiful beaded embellishing for the Little Red Dress Project

Lisa Comfort of Sew Over It does a Q&A session offering some great advice about overfitting garments.  We’ve all done it, and it’s a good reminder to step back and relax a little bit about fixing all the things.

What’s on your sewing table this week?

  5. Love the Saturday Snippets, and loved being featured by you! Your Little Red Dress is amazing – the silhouette is so interesting, and the vintage vibe really stands out!!

    • Thanks Elizabeth, and you’re so welcome! I don’t do full vintage, so this was a welcome departure for me. And now I have a new dress for the opera! 😀
