Must-see Makes

Cocktail dress inspiration

Kathy of Sew Dainty made this fantastic cocktail dress from such a beautiful brocade.  The off the shoulder style is so classic for a cocktail dress and this one is a fantastic piece of excellent construction!

Amber is one of the wonderful women in the FB group Sew Much Talent.  She created this dress for the UMC Paper Garment Challenge.  75% of the dress is paper and the print is made from spray paint.  If you’re looking for a cocktail dress that’s way outside of the box, I can think of fewer better examples!

Alex of Sewrendipity made this fantastic Vogue 1531 for her cocktails look for The Day and Night Dress Challenge.  The oversized cowl and the open back are the kind of dramatic features I think look so polished and perfect on a cocktail dress, and Alex’s is so pretty in this stretch crepe.

Paulette of Petite Font made this adorable New Look 6411 shift dress in this fun liverpool print.  This is such a lovely easy wearing style, and the wavy floral is a little pop of joy!

What I’ve been sewing

It’s totally not a dress, but this big yarn embroidered coat I made has been awesome for keeping me toasty in our icy Colorado weather.  No the fabric didn’t come like that!  It was a long labor of love looping and stitching the yarn all over this sweater fleece!

Contests/Sewing Community Challenges and News

SewMyStyle2018 is getting into The Rumana Coat by By Hand London.  The long elegant style and classic tailoring elements should add up to some gorgeous coats by the end of the month.

Looking to sew up a capsule wardrobe?  Patternreview’s Wardrobe Contest is a great place to find some motivation.  While sewing up 1 topper, 2 bottoms, and 3 tops to be combined into 12 looks in just 6 weeks is a tall order, you’ll gain a solid wardrobe and bust through some serious stash fabric!

Threads Magazine started a podcast!  With sewing glitterati like Kenneth King as guests, this is likely going to be a fantastic show!

I can hardly believe it, but it’s 12 days until the kickoff of  The Day and Night Dress Challenge starts right here.  Check out the awesome prizes up for grabs, and my incredible team of bloggers and vloggers I’ve assembled for the challenge.
