Here’s where I recap Me Made May ’15, days 7-9.
On day 7, my husband and I made a significant dent in our couch recovering project. Besides being super cool to use, the pneumatic stapler makes really quick work of everything. The bottom deck and both of the arms are now in place, and they are looking slick.
I cannot wait to get this baby finished and into my sewing room for real. I’m wearing my Jalie 2908 Designer Pastiche jeans with the side buttoned vents. I paired it with a thrifted t-shirt that I love and a utility sort of apron I made from a vintage curtain panel. I love this apron, but I don’t wear it much in the kitchen as I prefer full aprons. I enjoyed wearing it while crawling around the couch, and hopefully it protected my jeans from stray staples.
On day 8, I must admit that I didn’t get out of my Flannel Fox pajamas until 5 pm.
I was baking all day for my son’s birthday party, and between the Lemon Chocolate Cake and Wookie Cookies, and Stormtrooper eggs, I was bushed (how convenient I was already in pajamas, right?!). A lilac and white apron made from a refashioned shower curtain kept my clothes chocolate-free.
I’m a little picky about aprons I actually work with in the kitchen. They have to be thicker than standard quilting cotton to handle the messes of the kitchen without leaking through to my clothes, but the fabric can’t be stiff either like canvas because it’s just not comfortable to wear. This shower curtain is the best of all possible worlds. It’s about the weight of a lighter twill and handles a lot of use before I need to toss it in the wash. Plus the lilac is really close to one of my purples, which I love. It’s not often I wear my colors while I cook.
On day 9, I finished up my kitchen duties for my son’s party while my guys, bedecked in homemade Lego man suits made from cardboard tubes had light saber battles.
